Bike to be Stigma Free!

Bike to be StigmaFree!

As Idahoans, we value the great outdoors and invite you to boost your serotonin levels by getting outside for mental wellness for a good cause! May is Mental Health Awareness Month; please join NAMI-Wood River Valley, the Cities of Hailey, Ketchum  Sun Valley & Bellevue, BCRD, Wood River Y, Wood River Trails Association, Sturtevants,  and Club Ride to ride (or hike) trails in our community for mental wellness. By signing up to participate, you’re joining in the effort to encourage mental wellness practices in the great outdoors, at a safe distance, with yourself, or with family members, and utilizing the new Travel the Gravel Map. This community-wide effort will also support the stigmafree ride and recognize “happy” things are released in your brain while riding (or hiking) such as dopamine and serotonin.

By riding (or hiking) the trails, you’re also helping to report on which trails need to be addressed, the Wood River Trails Association will then deploy volunteers to help clean up the trails.

How can you participate in the Biking (or hiking) for Mental Wellness, a stigmafree Ride?

  • Sign up your family, or yourself, to ride or hike, through May 31st, by sharing on social media, on how the activities are helping your overall mental wellness.
  • You can financially donate, (but not required) by raising funds for NAMI & Wood River Trails Association.
    • Donate $25 for an individual, or;
    • Donate $100 per family, or;
    • Donate $.25 per mile if you’re biking, or;
    • Donate $1 per mile if you’re hiking on foot.

We want to stress, please keep safe social distancing if you’re going out with other people, please do not push your limits, and please be safe.  We do NOT want you to get hurt to be a strain on the emergency management or healthcare system.

As Idahoans we value the outdoors, which is why one of our biggest events of the year to help raise awareness about mental health issues is a bike ride (insert link to bike ride page). On Saturday, May 20th, businesses and organizations can also partner with us by joining as sponsors of the Biking for Mental Wellness, a Stigmafree Ride. The only “family-friendly” leisurely bike ride in the Valley shows our support for those in the community that are impacted by mental health conditions. Costumes are encouraged!
